UPDATE: Since this article was published The Mariners have traded Cliff Lee to the Texas Rangers, so this article is what could have been, kinda like…LeBron.

So New York City sports fans didn’t get LeBron James, but could they be getting the next best thing in baseball?

Cliff Lee who is now on the verge of being traded for the third time in the past 2 years (going from Cleveland to Philadelphia and then Philadelphia to Seattle). Cliff Lee, who has always been a No. 1 option on any team he’s ever pitched for, can bring his dominance to a team that already has CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettite, Phil Hughes, and Javier Vazquez, who would more then likely be on his way out.

Cliff Lee has always been a hot item for many teams and most recently this season with teams like Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Cincinnati Reds. Teams league wide have been interested in acquiring this dominant left-hander.

The Seattle Mariners, which is the team that Cliff Lee is currently pitching for, don’t have a chance at winning their division or a shot at the playoffs, so trading Cliff Lee for young talented prospects only makes sense.

The Yankees have offered their best young prospect, catcher Jesus Montero and the deal as one MLB executive said today “is about done” so the Yankees, barring any last second change of heart, or better offer from another team will acquire Cliff Lee and will truly have the best pitching rotation in all of baseball.

CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Cliff Lee, Andy Pettite and Phil Hughes. One of the best things about this rotation is it has three powerful, hard throwing left-handers. Cliff Lee is more fuel to an already dominant fire.

If the Yankees due in fact land Cliff Lee even before the All-Star break I’m going to go ahead and make them the favorites to win not only the American League East and the American League but also the World Series. The Red Sox are plagued by injuries while the Yankees finally are getting everyone healthy and back together.

With a team that always knows how to hit, finds a way to win, if you add another dominant All-Star pitcher, well the end result could be World Series ring No. 28

Stay Tuned.
