Ever since he demanded a trade there are more Roy Oswalt trade rumors than there were bad mortgages in 2007.

However, don’t count the Yankees among teams looking for the of the 32-year-old from Mississippi. Jon Heyman from Sports Illustrated spoke with a Yankee official this week who said the Bombers are happy with their current rotation and aren’t looking to make a deal.

This should be pretty obvious news to anyone who follows the Yankees. The 2009 World Series showed that the Yankees have as strong a Top three as anybody in baseball and the maturation of Phil Hughes has gone a long way towards easing any concerns that Javier Vazquez might produce.

The Yankees also traded away a decent amount of prospects this offseason, probably the most since Brian Cashman has been in charge. So that makes it less likely they would be quick to deal more prospects for Oswalt.

Also, Cashman has always been the type to resist dealing prospects for players they would have to also pay heavily for and Oswalt’s $16 million price tag in 2011 would be exactly that.

Instead the Yankees will ride out whatever Vazquez gives them and would plug in guys like Sergio Mitre , Chad Gaudin , or even Ivan Nova and Zach McAllister if things got really bad.

Then the money they would spend on Oswalt now would be better appropriated toward a free agent like Cliff Lee during the offseason, somebody they could just sign and won’t have to deal prospects for and pay big money to.
