Lee, Utley Fuel Phillies to Game 1 Victory

One word describes Cliff Lee in game one of the World Series Wednesday Night, and that word was “dominate”. Lee was chosen to start game one by Charlie Manuel because the Philly skipper was confident that Lee would be able to perform the way he did. Lee put on a show. He allowed no earned runs, struck out ten batters with with zero walks and held the feared Yankee lineup to only six hits.
Lee out-dueled his buddy and former teammate CC Sabathia, who started for the Yankees in game one. Sabathia pitched seven innings allowing two runs on four hits.
The two runs Sabathia let up were to second baseman Chase Utley. Utley hit two homers off of Sabathia—both solo shots. Utley became the second person to hit two home runs as a lefty batter off a left handed pitcher. The only other batter so accomplish such a feat was Yankee great Babe Ruth.
The Yankees had a lot of trouble getting any offense going at all. Nick Swisher continued to struggle towards the end of the lineup and A-Rod had even more trouble in the heart of it; striking out three times. The only bright spot in the lineup was Mr. November, Derek Jeter, who went three for four on the night with a double.
Tomorrow night, the Yankees send AJ Burnett to the hill to face Pedro Martinez. This certainly is not a homecoming for Pedro. Expect a lot of “Whose your daddy?!” chants in the Bronx.
