Carter’s MLB Power Rankings: Aug. 9

The New York Yankees are my new No. 1 team in my power rankings this week for a couple of reasons actually.
Firstly, I realized earlier Saturday afternoon, that the “Bombers” are 16-5 since the All-Star Break. Now, I grew up rooting for the Red Sox and the Rangers and continue to this day, but as a baseball fan in general, I gotta give my props to Joe Girardi and company for getting down to business lately.
They certainly have the offense down, that’s for sure. As of Saturday afternoon, they were second in the MLB in runs scored with 609, only two behind the league-leading Angels with 611 runs scored.
They say that defense/pitching wins championships in the MLB. With the addition of Chad Gaudin, the Yankees are proving that they really want to get it done with pitching, something they haven’t been the best at doing so far this season.
Bottom line is this: if the New York Yankees want to win the World Series, their pitching has to improve. They have given up 523 runs this season as of Saturday morning (when I finished my notes for this article.)
With those thoughts in mind, here are my latest version of my MLB power rankings.
