Did George Mitchell Cover Up Juicing By David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez?

Now that reports have surfaced that David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez tested positive for steroids in 2003, it makes me wonder.

I will avoid connecting references through free-association.

I wonder whether George Mitchell, a former consultant for the Boston Red Sox and born and raised in Maine, covered-up those test results for the Mitchell Report.

“No star players from the 2004 or 2007 Red Sox World Series championship teams were named in the report.”

That is a quotation from an article in 2007 about whether George Mitchell had bias in favor of the Red Sox.

The former Boston players mentioned in the Mitchell Report were Roger Clemens, Mo Vaughn, utility fielder Mike Lansing, reliever Brendan Donnelly and a few others that had insignifcant time in Boston.

However, neither Donnelly, Lansing Vaughn or Clemens was implicated in juicing while with Boston — Clemens was accused of juicing while in New York, Lansing while in Montreal, Vaughn while in Anaheim, and Donnelly also in Anaheim.

In short, the Mitchell Report gave no indication that juicing occurred in Boston.

The other fact is that the Boston front office had a long running feud with Mo Vaughn, Boston fans had turned on Roger Clemens after he signed with New York, while Lansing played only one season in Boston (2001), while Donnelly spent only one season in Boston (2007).

Thus, those players were convenient sacrificial lambs.

Goes to show you what type of “facts” you can expect from those who have conflicts of interests.

The paradox here is that the Mitchell Report had opened the flood-gates for accusations in regards to juicing.

Now however, the news that Ortiz and Ramirez tested positive in 2003 — does not close the gates, but makes me wonder if Mitchell himself should be investigated.

How is it that Mitchell could get circumstantial evidence of juicing on a player whom until recently had been a career minor leaguer, Jack Cust, and yet find no circumstantial evidence on David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez when they had tested positive in 2003 for steroids?

I know that the test results had been sealed, but I find it very fishy that, knowing now that they tested positive in 2003 that circumstantial evidence against Ortiz and Ramirez would not be inevitably discovered by George Mitchell.
