Dustin Ackley to Yankees: Latest Trade Details, Comments, Reaction

Looking to boost their outfield depth, the New York Yankees acquired Dustin Ackley from the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners officially announced the deal on Twitter:
Ackley responded to news of the trade, saying it was “crazy” but that he was “excited for what the future has to bring,” per MLB.com’s Greg Johns.
Even though Ackley has spent virtually all of his time this season in the outfield, Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News speculated this could be the first move in which the Yankees give him time on the infield:
Joel Sherman of the New York Post also added that the Yankees may view Ackley as a guy who needs a change of scenery at this point in his career.
Ackley has not lived up to his hype, to say the least, since being taken with the second overall pick in 2009. He hasn’t had an OPS over .700 since his rookie season in 2011, including a career-low .215 batting average and .270 on-base percentage this year.
The Mariners gave Ackley plenty of time to find his swing, but it became apparent things weren’t going to work out. He’s just 27 years old and did hit a career-high 14 homers last year. Putting his left-handed bat in Yankee Stadium, with the short porch down the right field line, could be the perfect thing to resurrect his career.
The Yankees have a comfortable six-game lead in the American League East and don’t need to make a drastic change, so taking a buy-low option makes sense leading up to the deadline.
