Miller Could Miss Up to a Month
Friday, June 12
“Miller will be shut down for about two weeks, then start a throwing program. I guess, conservatively, it’ll be about a month,” general manager Brian Cashman said, per Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News.
On June 10, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported Miller was headed to the disabled list.
Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network said Miller’s MRI results showed a strained flexor, and she noted that he won’t pick up a baseball for the next few days.
Miller has been fantastic in his first season with the Yankees, posting a 1.03 ERA with 17 saves, 43 strikeouts and just eight hits allowed in 26.1 innings. His presence in the back of the bullpen is one of the reasons New York has been on a tear lately, winning seven straight games prior to Wednesday’s loss against the Washington Nationals.
Fortunately, the Yankees have an even better reliever to throw in Miller’s spot. Dellin Betances has picked up right where he left off last year with a minuscule 0.28 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 11 hits allowed in 32.1 innings. However, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports brought up a good point regarding the Yankees bullpen:
Girardi will have to manage his bullpen differently with Miller out, as the Yankees lose some depth, but having another elite arm to fall back on in the ninth inning does make life easier for a manager.
