Stock Up, Stock Down for New York Yankees’ Top 10 Prospects in Week 22

The time for rosters to expand is here, and the weekly stock report on the New York Yankees‘ top 10 prospects has undergone a slight change as a result.

Catcher J.R. Murphy, No. 10 on last week’s rankings, has received the call to the big leagues and will be left off the Week 22 rankings. In his place, a newcomer has joined the ranks.

September is usually the time that prospects can make the biggest impact on their respective clubs. Pitchers often get work in an effort to rest the veteran members of the bullpen, and reserve catchers sometimes catch the later innings of games in order to get experience.

The Yankees may not do this all that often, though. Joe Girardi’s club is in the thick of the playoff race, and he will need his established guys to keep on winning games. Now is not the time for prospects to learn on the fly.

The fact that the call-ups were deemed useful enough to have a chance at playing time speaks to their talent, though. It won’t be long before they have a real impact on the Yankees.
