Yankees Trade Rumors: Latest Information on Bombers’ Quest to Add More Offense

For the first time in a long time, the New York Yankees are having major issues scoring runs. They are 13th in the American League in runs scored per game. Their 3.86 per game average is well below the league average of 4.36, per Baseball Reference.
The anemic offense has put a huge strain on the pitching staff, but remarkably, the team still isn’t completely out of the wild-card or pennant race in the AL East.
The Bronx Bombers received a boost from the return of Derek Jeter and the acquisition of Alfonso Soriano, but they still need more. Rumors are flying about the team’s pursuit of quality bats via the trade market. Here’s the latest:
Players Not Keen on Coming to the Bronx?
The Chicago Cubs and Yankees got Soriano to waive his no-trade clause, but apparently, that hasn’t been an easy task in the case of other veterans.
Per Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Philadelphia Phillies veteran third basemen Michael Young isn’t interested in playing for the Yankees—or any other team except the Texas Rangers, with whom he spent the first 13 years of his career.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweeted that the Yanks were interested in Young, but hadn’t made any headway as of yet.
In an additional note, Sherman tweeted that Young would possibly waive his no-trade clause to play for the Red Sox. It’s hard to imagine that sitting well with Yankees fans.
Before Young snubbed the Yankees, reports surfaced that Chicago White Sox outfielder, Alex Rios had listed the Yankees as a team he wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause for as well.
Rios is quoted by Bruce Levine of ESPN dispelling those rumors, but it is hard to remember the last time there was so much negativity surrounding the Yankees.
Hunter Pence Interest
Per CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, the Yankees were among the teams to check in with the San Francisco Giants on the availability of Hunter Pence.
Pence is hitting .277 with 14 home runs and has driven in 51 runs. Perhaps more importantly, he has a wealth of postseason experience, having played 21 playoff games in his career.
Unfortunately for the Yankees, Heyman reports that they and the Giants have not found a fit for a deal.
New York desperately needs a spark if they hope to make a serious run at a postseason berth. Pence is the type of player who could provide what the team needs. It would be wise to continue to check on his availability.
