Alex Rodriguez Reportedly Uncertain of His Return to New York Yankees

Just two days after tweeting that he was ready to start playing in games again and subsequently being told to “shut up” by his general manager, Alex Rodriguez is now reportedly unsure of his return to the New York Yankees.

Alex Rodriguez expressed some uncertainty about his return to the New York Yankees this season during a conference call Wednesday afternoon with team officials, a source familiar with the conversation told ESPNNewYork.com.
“I’m not sure when I can come back,” A-Rod is said to have told general manager Brian Cashman and team president Randy Levine on the three-way call. “It could be in July. It could be in August. It could be I won’t be able to play at all this year.”
This, of course, would directly contradict A-Rod’s now infamous tweet from Tuesday:
Moreover, that tweet not only contradicted an earlier report that stated he still wasn’t ready to play, but it sent New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman on a tirade, telling the polarizing third baseman to “shut the (expletive) up.”
It’s impossible to know if Rodriguez is telling the truth this time around, but considering that his hip surgery took place in January, he is likely a long ways away from returning to the Yankees lineup.
In 2012, he hit .272/.353/.430 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 122 games—not too shabby for a 36-year-old with nearly 20 seasons under his belt. However, in the postseason, he tallied just three hits in 25 at-bats to go along with zero RBI and a whopping 12 strikeouts.
Combine that poor performance with his massive contract and the ongoing Biogenesis investigation, and the Yankees organization has good reason to be fed up with the three-time American League MVP.
Though the team could certainly use another bat to bolster its lineup in a very competitive AL East, Rodriguez’s return to the field might not come in 2013, if ever.
