Selena Roberts, the original SI writer who leaked that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003, has a soon-to-be-released book that reveals that A-Rod used performance-enhancing drugs in high school and for the Yankees.
Roberts’ main source of evidence that A-Rod juiced in high school:
A high school teammate of A-Rod’s told Roberts that the future No. 1 draft pick was on steroids as a prep player and his coach knew it—an allegation the coach, Rich Hoffman, denied.
I am not sure what to believe in this case, but I think the evidence of him juicing as a Yankee is very important.
Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts, who broke the story that A-Rod flunked a steroid screening in 2003, reveals fellow bombers nicknamed the third basemen “B—h T—s” in 2005.
That was after he put on 15 pounds in the off-season and seemed to develop round pectorals, a condition called gymnecomastia that can be caused by anabloic steroids, she writes.
In addition, an unnamed major-leaguer is quoted as saying Rodriguez and steroid tainted pitcher Kevin Brown were seen together with human growth hormone – HGH – in 2004.
If this is true, then A-Rod has officially lied again. When I jumped off the “defend A-Rod” bandwagon, it was because he admitted to taking steroids from 2001-2003. I would like to take a moment to repeat what I said at the time:
I noticed when asked if “the time period was 2001,’02 and ‘03,” A-Rod replied with, “that’s pretty accurate, yes.” …What kind of an answer is that?! Are other reporters missing this? According to A-Rod, the time period for his steroid use (2001-2003) is pretty accurate. It’s a yes or no question!
So maybe he isn’t a liar. Obviously, when he said “pretty accurate” he was leaving out his use with the Yankees.
I am sure he will comment on this matter soon, but I will not be buying into what he says.
