Today’s events may have decided Kevin Youkilis‘ fate.
The last we all had heard, the 34-year-old former Boston Red Sox infielder was deciding between a two-year, $18 million offer from the Cleveland Indians and a one-year, $12 million offer from the New York Yankees.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports who broken the news first, the Indians may have decided to pass on Youkilis, as they have signed former Orioles infielder Mark Reynolds.

The deal for Reynolds is for one-year and $6 million, according to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.

The Yankees were rumored to have interest in Reynolds as well, but they turned their attention to Youkilis this past week and went as far as offering him the one-year contract for 2013.
So now with Cleveland signing Reynolds, who will play first base, and already having Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, that all but takes Youkilis out of the equation for the Tribe.
Which leaves the one-year offer from the Yankees now.
Sweeny Murti of WFAN talked to Youkilis’ agent, Joe Bick, who said his client has no timetable on when he’ll make a decision.
Agent Joe Bick says Youk “is still in the process of deciding what he’s going to do” and has no timetable for decision.

With the Indians not pursuing Youkilis as hard now, I think he ends up in the Bronx now.
And that sound you just heard is the very loud groan all the way in Boston and Red Sox Nation.
So now we all await a decision from Youkilis. But honestly, him coming to the Yankees makes all the sense in the world now.
Stay tuned, Yankees Universe.
