*****UPDATE (10:10 p.m.):**************

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Chicago Cubs have landed Nate Schierholtz on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

In the deal, there is $500k worth of incentives, making the deal worth potentially $3 million when the season is over.

Cross another potential name the Yankees were in on off the list.

Right now, Nashville seems to be the center of all the MLB hot stove action.

While the annual Baseball Winter Meetings have been going on in Nashville, we’ve heard some different names that have been tied to the New York Yankees.

Nate Schierholtz has been one of those names, and according to Buster Olney of ESPN, he’s very close to getting a new deal.

Olney then tweeted afterwards that the Yankees were the team in the lead for his services.

The 28-year-old Schierholtz hit .257 with six home runs and 21 RBI in 114 games spending time with both the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies in 2012.

After acquiring him in the Hunter Pence deal this past summer, the Phillies non-tendered Schierholtz, thus making a free agent.

After being non-tendered by Philadelphia, Schierholtz received calls from nine clubs, one of which was the Yankees.

If the Yankees do land Schierholtz, it’ll be interesting to see if they use him as a starting right fielder or if he’ll take Andruw Jones’ spot as the fourth outfielder on the team.

Stay tuned, Yankees Universe.
