The Alex Rodriguez injury really changed the New York Yankees‘ winter plans.
After it came out that he needs surgery to fix a torn labrum in his hip, we’ve all been wondering what the Yankees will do to fill his spot in the field.
Two of the potential options that the Yankees could have looked at for 2013 went off the board and signed with other teams on Wednesday.
First, it was former Rays infielder Jeff Keppinger, who signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Chicago White Sox.

Shortly after Keppinger signed, former Yankees reserve third basemen Eric Chavez agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

I never thought Chavez would be the guy the Yankees would go to in hopes of taking all of A-Rod’s at-bats. But I thought they could pull off a platoon situation with Keppinger and Chavez.
But now that’s out the window and Yankees GM Brian Cashman needs to do something.
Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that the Yankees met with the agent of Orioles third basemen Mark Reynolds.
Yankees met with agent for 3B Mark Reynolds today. Made $7.5M this year, looking for similar deal.

In 135 games for the O’s, Reynolds hit just .221 with 23 home runs and 69 RBI in 2012.
He led the league for four straight years in strikeouts, but he also hit anywhere between 28 to 44 home runs a season during that same span.
Reynolds can play both first and third, and was used primarily at first base base after Manny Machado was called up late in the season.
He made $7.5 million in 2012 and is looking for something similar, which is definitely affordable on a one-year deal.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and WFAN, if the Yankees want Reynolds, they will have to act fast.
Youkilis, mark reynolds still on 3b board. But they are coming off fast

The hot stove has never been burning as hot as it has this winter. And with the way free agents have been flying of the market, the Yankees may in fact need to sign someone like Reynolds soon.
Stay tuned, Yankees Universe.
