What Would It Take the New York Yankees to Acquire Giancarlo Stanton?

The Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays are set to complete one of the biggest blockbusters in recent memory. The Marlins will be sending Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck to the Blue Jays in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jeff Mathis, Jacob Marisnick and Justin Nicolino.
This leaves Giancarlo Stanton as the team’s lone star, and he wasn’t exactly happy when he learned of the news.

While there’s absolutely no indication that Stanton wants out of Miami, or whether or not the Marlins and Jeffrey Loria are willing to deal their young star, the recent fire sale of the Marlins makes the possibility intriguing.
There’s no doubting the fact that potential suitors would line up to acquire a player of Stanton’s caliber. He possesses one of the best power bats in the league, and has an absolute cannon for a right arm.
If I were general manager Brian Cashman of the New York Yankees, I’d make sure I was one of the first ones to give the Marlins’ front office a call.
The Yankees have an opening in right field. The current options include Ichiro Suzuki, Torii Hunter and Raul Ibanez. Stanton is significantly better than all three players, not to mention significantly younger.
Cashman‘s goal was to get “younger and better” this offseason, and acquiring Stanton would achieve just that.
Stanton has power to all fields, and he’d most definitely take advantage of the short porch in right field at Yankee Stadium. His power numbers are already spectacular—93 home runs in just three career seasons—but they could stand to increase with the Yankees.
Because of his age and talent level, the Marlins have every right to ask for the world in exchange for Stanton.
Any deal would have to start with top prospects Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez. After that, David Phelps, Adam Warren and maybe even David Adams would have to be included. If the Yankees are reluctant to move Phelps, Joba Chamberlain can be substituted in.
This type of deal would be a huge hit to the farm system of the Yankees, but Stanton is a guy that could lock down right field for the next 10 seasons if the Yankees re-sign him when he hits free agency after the 2016 season.
Stanton would immediately slot into the No. 4 spot in the order, and could provide the protection necessary for bounce-back seasons from Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira.
It would take a ton to acquire Stanton, but Cashman should strongly consider a deal if he’s given the opportunity to make one.
