New York Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova hasn’t tasted defeat away from the Bronx since June 3, 2011, which is a major statistic when the club is trying to break an eight-game road losing streak to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Tuesday night.

The Yankees have been sent out as slight minus-110 road favorites in the MLB betting odds (courtesy of SBR Forum), while the total has settled in at 8.

Nova (9-2, 4.03 ERA) has compiled an incredible 12-0 record and 3.17 ERA over his last 16 road starts, which includes a perfect 6-0 mark and 3.44 ERA in eight such outings this year.

The right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in six career appearances in this American League East rivalry, but has a 6.30 ERA in two starts in this ballpark.

The Yankees have won six of their last seven games as a road favorite, while the “under” is 6-2 in the last eight contests in that situation.

Tampa Bay captured a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over New York on Monday night, pushing its record to 6-4 in this year’s season series. The Rays have tallied a 27-22 record against the Bronx Bombers since Oct. 2, 2009.

Rays starting pitcher James Shields (7-5, 4.04 ERA) will look to bounce back from a 5-2 home setback to the Detroit Tigers, surrendering four runs and a season-high 14 hits in 7.2 frames. He has allowed nine earned runs and 21 hits in 12.2 innings of work over his last two efforts.

The right-hander has compiled a 5-13 record and 4.55 ERA in 23 career starts versus the Bronx Bombers but has gone 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA in his last six home outings, with the club winning five of those affairs.

Tampa Bay has won its last four games with Shields on the mound as a home underdog, while the “under” has gone 6-2 in the last eight meetings in this series.

Baseball fans in South Florida are in for a treat in the middle game of this three-game series.
