CC Sabathia: New York Yankees Ace Placed on Disabled List with Adductor Strain

The New York Yankees have placed left-hander CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list with a right adductor strain, reports Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger.

He reportedly first felt pain in the area in the fourth inning of Sunday’s start against the New York Mets. After going for an MRI, it was revealed that he indeed had a Grade 1 strain in the region.

Thankfully for the Yankees, Sabathia is expected to miss just two starts. This would put him in line to start right after the All-Star break.

In his place, right-hander Freddy Garcia will take the mound on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.

Sabathia has had a decent season, going 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA. He has struck out 105 batters in 107 innings of work. While those statistics are respectable, they are not up to Sabathia’s usual standards.

The last time he posted an ERA over 3.37 was in 2005 as a member of the Cleveland Indians. His ERA then was 4.03 through 196.2 innings.

The Yankees will hope that Garcia can provide two quality outings, as they are in no position to be giving away games at this point in the season.

Garcia had pitched poorly in the rotation earlier this season, leading to a demotion to the long-relief role.

Carig expects right-hander Adam Warren to get the call from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, yet that’s neither been confirmed nor denied by GM Brian Cashman.
